Mission
Our mission is bring the strong aspects of US education to students in China. We focus on leadership, communication skills, teamwork, and creativity.
Program
Day programs and overnight camps
Most of our teaching happens when the students are out of school over the Chinese New Year holiday and summer break. We teach many day camps (3-5 days) and overnight camps (5-14 days) during each school break.
During the school year, we work around students’ intense school schedules by teaching weekend workshops and once-a-week classes.
Each program we teach is tailored to fit the particular group of students’ needs and interest.
Curriculum
Our curriculum has been designed exclusively by our teachers. Each teacher has a direct say in deciding what to teach. Our curriculum is constantly growing and evolving, as we develop new activities and learn new information.The current program includes:
- ? Icebreakers and teambuilding activities,
- ? Science projects such as bridge building,
- ? Public speaking,
- ? Research projects,
- ? Art projects,
- ? Mock debate, and
- ? Volunteering
Tutoring
We also offer special tutoring services as needed, focusing on college life, living abroad, and English terminology for math and science classes.
Business and Marketing
As a small company, everyone is involved in all aspects of the business. We work with many schools, educational companies, and other channels to recruit students and understand their needs.
Team
Ben
Benjamin Feng is the founder of the program. He received his B.S. and M.S. from MIT and MBA degree from Harvard Business School. Ben worked for Citibank for 13 years in New York, TaiWan, Singapore, and Indonesia. He then worked in venture capital for more than 20 years. He moved to Shanghai more than 5 years ago. As a senior partner of Paclink. Paclink is a mator venture capital firm from TaiWan. Ben decided to work in education two years as a way to give back to society. He hopes to bring the strong aspects of US education to China.
Stephanie
Stephanie M. Schmit (MIT B.S. in Mechanical Engineering 2011) is the lead instructor for the 2014 winter camps. Her experience teaching and mentoring in the MIT Global Startup Labs Bangalore and Gordon-MIT Engineering Leadership Program primed her for this position. She also brings two years of work experience to table, full of stories about corporate life and getting these done from her career at GE Aviation as an engineer and project manager. Outside of the classroom, you will find her in the gym training and teaching partner acrobatics and handstands.
J. J.
Born and raised in Xi’an, later moved to Wisconsin, and now found herself in Boston, J.J. Zhao considers herself a fusion of both the Chinese and American cultures - she is a fan of Greenbay Packers, and also love celebrating the Spring Festival. J.J. Zhao is currently a senior majoring in Economics and Mathematics at MIT, where she also founded and serves as the CEO of Smart Woman Securities, an investment education club with
165 members. She helped designed and launched the first American University Leadership Program in summer 2013.
Michael
Born in Shaanxi Province, China, and did his undergraduate in Beijing. Then went to Eastern Michigan University and got Master's degree, majoring in Higher Education Administration. After graduation, Michael worked for the University's Office of Admissions, responsible for international recruiting. In 2012, he came back to China and entered TPI to help Chinese students study abroad and local high schools' international cooperation.
Recruiting
TPI is currently recruiting full time employees and summer interns. During the summer, you would:
- ? Teach the summer programs
- ? Develop new and improve existing curriculum
- ? Assist with recruiting students (design promotional materials for the program, meet with educational companies and schools, etc.)
During the year, full time employees will also:
- ? Develop and launch more meaningful programs and services throughout the year
- ? Teach winter programs over the Chinese New Year holiday, weekend programs, and other classes as needed
- ? Further develop and improve curriculum for said programs
- ? Recruit students, work with other companies in education, design promotional materials, etc.
The program curriculum is designed to teach students the fundamentals of teamwork, communication, leadership, and creativity. These concepts are reinforced day after day with practice working in teams, speaking in front of a group, and thinking creatively.
All of our teachers take an active role in curriculum design. New activities, workshops, and games are always needed, and you have full control to design and perfect your lectures, discussions and activities.
